Columbia Machine Works repaired this ejector plate for a die casting machine. The first step was to grind the cracks out of the plate and weld them up. We then machined the closing cylinder mounting surfaces, ensuring that any welding on the cracked cylinder mounting holes were machined out. Pictured here, the next step was line boring the guide rod bushing holes for minimal clean-up on one of our CNC horizontal boring mills. We made new bronze bushings on a CNC lathe to fit the guide rods with the proper clearance, and then resurfaced the two ejector cylinder mounting surfaces. The plate was then be given a final quality inspection to ensure it was back in the proper working order, then it was shipped back to the customer’s facility.
